“Pega negra, or negre” (Blackpitch, black gold) follows the recovery of the production of blackpitch, a highly prized product before the advent of oil, as had traditionally been done in the Gavarres for centuries. Through the experience of the old pitch makers of the Pyrenees and of Quintanar de la Sierra, a new oven has been built from scratch and a cooking has been carried out, which we continue in parallel with the one that is done every year in Quintanar de la Sierra. Like everything that has to do with fire as the basis of the process, this work ends up becoming an ancestral and festive activity and an appreciation of the forest work that was once an indispensable part of the livelihood of the inhabitants of these forest environments.

VERSIÓ ORIGINAL EN CATALÀ: “Pega negra, or negre” fa el seguiment de la recuperació de l'elaboració de pega negra, un producte molt preuat abans de l'aparició del petroli, com tradicionalment s'havia fet a les Gavarres durant segles. A través de l'experiència dels antics pegaires del Pirineu i dels pegaires de Quintanar de la Sierra s'ha construït una nova peguera des des zero i s'ha fet una cuita, que seguim en paral·lel a la que cada any es fa a Quintanar de la Sierra. Com tot el que té a veure amb el foc com a base del procés, aquest treball acaba convertint-se en una activitat ancestral i festiva i de valoració de les feines de bosc que abans eren una part indispensable del sustent dels habitants d'aquests entorns forestals.
